Oya Energy Hybrid Facility

Project Overview
A utility-scale hybrid power plant feeding clean, dispatchable energy into the South African national grid, combining large-scale solar PV, wind and battery storage.
The Challenge
Bringing a multi-technology utility plant online to grid-code standard demands rigorous, sequenced commissioning and testing across thousands of components — from individual PV strings to medium-voltage transformers and a large-scale BESS.
Our Solution
Dean Innovative Solutions led commissioning and testing across the plant: string-level PV testing through combiner boxes to inverters, MV transformer commissioning, protection relay testing, and full hot and cold commissioning of the BESS. This project established the commissioning methodology and documentation standards now applied across subsequent DIS sites.
The Results
The facility feeds clean, dispatchable energy into the national grid with verified performance and protection systems. The commissioning framework developed here became the benchmark for later utility-scale engagements.
